Shooting in 4:3 but framing for 16:9, followed by cropping in post-production.This simply involves shooting in the 4:3 aspect ratio but framing for the 16:9 aspect ratio, with a view to anamorphizing it in post-production. Of course, you need some means by which to frame accurately: some cameras offer the option of displaying 16:9 guidelines in the viewfinder, or you can mask a monitor appropriately to help in framing. This technique is known as "shoot and protect." The raw footage can be anamorphized by vertically stretching it by a factor of 133.3%, which can easily be done with most video editing programs.
